Early Life and Needs
Moreblessing Marimo was born on 31 October 1977 as the first child in her family and lives with cerebral palsy. Her condition has presented significant challenges for her and her family over the years. Since 2023, Nurtured Abilities has been supporting Moreblessing financially, particularly in meeting her monthly personal care and hygiene needs.
Moreblessing experiences a speech impairment and reduced mobility as a result of her condition and therefore uses a wheelchair. She communicates effectively through assistive technology, using a tablet to type messages. This method of communication has enabled us to engage with her directly, understand her needs, and learn more about the difficulties she currently faces.
Empowerment Through Support
Our organisation is committed to continuing our support, not only for Moreblessing but also for her immediate family. We aim to provide both practical assistance and reassurance that they are not alone. As we strengthen our relationship with her, we intend to assess her abilities and interests so that we can design appropriate training opportunities to help her achieve economic empowerment.
Moreblessing’s story reflects a broader challenge faced by many families in Zimbabwe, where disability often leads to stigma, family strain, and limited support. Following early separation from her biological parents, she was raised by her grandparents until their passing. Her younger sister—now a single parent—later brought her from the rural areas to live with her and has since taken on full responsibility for her care.
